Welcome to the Bead Hoarders Blog Hop Reveal. . . . .

I would like to welcome you to my reveal of a brand spankin' new Blog Hop. This is another great idea that Lori Anderson, well known for her international Bead Soup Blog Hop, has come up with. This time we don't swap anything with someone across the country or on the other side of the world. We are to look into our own "hoard"! It's the very First Bead Hoarders Blog Hop! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy my creation. I will post the list and links at the bottom so you can visit the other 160 + participants as well.

First of all, I wasn't so sure about using the word "hoard". I used to associate it with someone who kept everything, but nothing too bad, just having their home pretty cluttered up. Newspapers to the ceiling. Detergents, TP, bars of soap, etc. piled in basements and attics. Canned goods, pet foods, soda, food staples, still in bags, piled in kitchens and dining rooms, clothing strewn everywhere imaginable........those kinds of things. Of course now, with the shows on tv, hoarding seems like a bad word, lol. I've seen some nasty things found in some of those places! So, I had to go look into it.

HOARDER VS COLLECTOR
Hoarder - a person who accumulates things and hides them away for future use. Ok, I can see the meaning of that.
Hoard - a supply or accumulation that is hidden or carefully guarded for preservation, future use, etc.: a vast hoard of silver. Hmmmm......sounding familiar!
Collector - a person who collects something in particular, professionally or as a hobby. Yes sir, sounding a little more classy.
Collect - to accumulate, to gather together things of specific interest or value. I collect jewelry making components. So in my quick research(and opinion), they seem to be the same! It's NOT a nasty word nor a bad habit. I'm thinking I'm more of a jewelry connoisseur!

Here is the hoard I started with:

The five focals are just so beautiful. The picture doesn't show them off so much. The set of 5 had the price tag still on them of $42.00. I know where I bought them and they definitely don't do coupons. I also know I had to have bought them at a slightly reduced price. And they only have sales like 2 times a year and not usually on artesian items. No wonder I hoarded them! I didn't use the gray/blue ceramic beads. Just couldn't make them work. I added black, red and ivory seed beads as well as many jump rings. Here is my creation. It is shown here as a triple strand necklace.

Well, I popped that coral and black strand out without really thinking much. Then I used all the coral I had so had to put that aside to see what else was going to happen for the top of it. I also knew what was going to happen with the red marble style ceramic beads and the repurposed black bead chain. I set about cutting apart the chain being careful not to loose to much and wire wrapped it in with the beads. That is ultimately the chain that determined the length of this whole project. Then the "work" began! Doing three strands of seed beads in no particular fashion then meeting them to go through the glass over and over wasn't bad. Doing it on a curve, so they would lay at the right spot on the above black bead chain, was an issue though....... Happy when that was done!

This is not my normal plan of attack. I'm not really sure I really ever have a plan of attack anymore. I keep trying so many new things. Not sure if it's for the challenge, to keep things fresh, or I just don't know where I want to go from here. Here is the kicker.....what I wanted to do, worked for me! This necklace can be MANY necklaces. There are lobsters on the ends of each strand. They can all be separate. I was really afraid it would look to tacky. I've also added the extra, double circle lengths of chain from my very 1st hoard picture, to two of the strands for length and style. The strands can also be interchanged on the main closure to create another combination if desired as you can see below in the upper right hand corner.

There's one more little idea that has also come to light since the pictures have been taken. My daughter Mandie, who has been calling me a bead/gemstone collector for years, saw them another way. Oh, and by the way, she also agreed that this was the best kind of challenge for me, a hoarders challenge..... Anyhow, I've done bracelet wraps as well so she asked if they would work as wraps. Huh, what a great idea and YES they certainly do with those lobsters already in place. Especially since I have the extra pieces of chain to add length for necklaces. Now that I have many new necklaces and bracelets to wear I better go see if I have anything to wear with them, LOL!

Thanks for visiting!

I'm Hurrying Up. . . . .

Excitement is in the air and I know so many of you have been out hopping over the weekend. Sadly, I missed the deadline for the Bead Hoarders Blog Hop. I've beaten myself up trying to finish everything in time. Just ask anyone that has been around me lately! All those grandiose designs in my head don't always work the way I want them to. One strand was torn apart so many times due to a gauging issue on my part. Then there was the obstacle with trying something way out of my usual style and comfort zone. I sure hope the saying "all good things take time" will be appropriate at the end point. I love the beads I picked and I hope you will enjoy them, too. I have the beginning pictures of course and my piece is nearly done. I have to run to pick up 2-triple hole bars at my local shop yet, take the final pictures and finish that blog. I will figure out the blogger picture posting by the end of the week as that is the part that messes with me the most! Please check back to see what I came up with and let me know what you think about it. I would really appreciate your thoughts and tips.

It's been silly, crazy here the last few weeks. My apologies to any visitors, guests, overnight guests, relatives, crazy relatives, etc.....that I may have __________(fill in blank)! Apologies also to all the blog hoppers out there as well, that came looking, but found nothing. I realized that my option in those last few days of stressing & being alone in the studio vs making memories with friends & family, I just had to take the latter. All is quiet on the home front now, even the hubs had to go out of town.

It's just the beads, Ollie the cat and me! YAY!

Thanks for understanding and don't forget to check back, too!
I'll also make sure to post on the group FB site as usual when its finished!
Hugs, Lisa
